Leicester lɛstər is a town in England in the East Midlands1. Administratively, it has been a unitary authority since 1997, but remains an integral part of the ceremonial county of Leicestershire, to which it gave its name. It is located on the Soar, on the edge of the National Forest. At the time of the 2011 census, the unitary authority of Leicester had 333,000 inhabitants, while the urban area of Leicester had 509,000, making it the largest city in the East Midlands and the tenth largest from the United Kingdom.
